John Allan has 16 years experience as a Deputy Utah County Prosecutor. He was the Violent Crimes Division Chief for the Utah County Attorney’s Office handling such cases as murder, rape, aggravated assault, domestic violence, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
John has 24 years experience both prosecuting and defending such crimes as: Violent crimes, sex related crimes, property crimes, drug related crimes, and DUI offenses. He has tried scores of DUI cases to a jury throughout his career and has litigated numerous murder cases including capital homicide. He has handled all types of sexual abuse type crimes and has taken numerous cases all the way through trial.
John has trained hundreds of other prosecutors throughout the United States on criminal trial skills and strategies. He has trained both police officers and prosecutors on automobile stops, search and seizure, and search warrants. He has outstanding credentials in teaching the nuances of criminal law and sat as Chairman of the Utah State Training Committee for prosecutors for over 7 years.
He has taught at both the State and National level in such courses as; search and seizure, opening and closing statements, direct and cross examination, trial technique and tactics, as well as plea negotiations.
John Allan earned a degree in English from Brigham Young University in 1984 and a Juris Doctor Degree from the J. Ruben Clark Law School at BYU in 1987. He began practicing law at the age of 25 and is licensed in both State and Federal Courts.
