What to Know if You Have Been Accused of Theft

Being accused of theft is a serious allegation. Whether you have been accused of a felony theft or a misdemeanor theft, it is important to realize that this crime can affect your future employment. Working with a lawyer to minimize the effect that the theft allegations or convictions will have on your record is highly advisable.

If you have been convicted of theft in the past, your current allegation can become a felony strictly because of your prior offenses. It is important that you do all that you can to keep theft off of your record.

There are many different classifications of theft in Utah. Some of the variations of theft are…

  • Theft by deception
  • Theft of services
  • Theft of services
  • Theft by extortion
  • Theft of lost or mislaid property
  • Retail theft
  • Vehicle theft
  • Theft of a firearm
  • Theft of utility or cable television services
  • Theft of fuel
  • Theft from a person
  • Theft of a rental vehicle

As you can see, theft can easily become a complicated case. It is important that you have an experienced and effective defense attorney to help you get results that are not going to affect your employment for the rest of your life. When your theft results in a conviction you may be facing jail or prison time and thousands of dollars in fines.

Investing in your case now may save your job or ensure that you do not miss out on future employment because of your criminal record. Give us a call today to ensure that you have a lawyer in your corner that will put up the best possible fight on your behalf.

    Attn: John Allan

    John,
This is Jonathan getting back to you- I’ve had a few tough days health wise. …. Anyway I just want to get things taken care of, or at least moving along, so every time someone knocks on my door I’m not worried they are coming to take me away in front of my kids and family on a stretcher or something….. Sorry this note is so long- I’ve gotten used to typing messages out because my voice is so in and out. Please get back to me as soon as possible as I know the judge M I’m supposed to see, is open tomorrow, and Tuesday nights are when the police start harassing me about why im not getting in to see him…. Please let me know asap if your able to help either way, or if I need to contact someone else. I’d rather work with you just because we have met, and worked together years and years ago, and it went well.

Thank you, and talk to you soon!

    Jonathan

I am looking for help. My boyfriend was falsely accused of stealing a sweatshirt at a collage football game. He was charged even after he asked for the proof. They said they had a witness. That’s it. What rights does he have before we go to court?
